Crispy Beef Cones

Crispy, fresh and made in home

Yield: 8 beef cones
Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes 400°F
Golden crunchy tortilla cones filled with richly spiced beef and finished with gooey, melty mozzarella these crispy beef cones are the kind of snack that instantly steals the spotlight. They’re fun to eat, packed with flavor and perfect for game day, parties or anytime you want something a little different from the usual appetizers. If you’re planning a casual spread, these cones pair especially well with crispy potato long fries creating that irresistible mix of crunchy textures everyone loves.

What makes these cones special is the contrast: a crisp tortilla shell on the outside, juicy and savory beef inside, and a creamy cheese topping that bubbles beautifully in the oven. They look impressive, but the process is straightforward and totally doable at home even if you’re cooking for a crowd. For even more flavor, serve them with our beef cone sauce .

If you enjoy creative cone-style snacks, you might also love my Air Fryer Pizza Cones, which deliver the same crispy texture with a cheesy pizza inspired twist.

The same seasoned ground beef used in these cones can also be turned into a comforting dinner like my One Pot Beef and Rice, a hearty one skillet recipe perfect for busy nights.

You can also Serve with this sauce with Creamy Garlic Yogurt Sauce for the perfect flavor combination.

Ingredients

For the Beef Mixture
1 lb ground beef (80% lean / 20% fat)
1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh garlic, minced
4 tablespoons tomato paste
Salt, to taste
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
½ teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon red chili flakes
1 cup water
1 cup mixed bell peppers, diced
1–2 serrano peppers, finely chopped
2 tablespoons oil
To Assemble
8 medium tortillas, halved
8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
Cooking spray
Toothpicks
Dried parsley, for garnish

How I Make It

  • Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté for 1–2 minutes until the onions become soft and translucent.
  • Add the ground beef to the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon, until the meat starts to change color.
  • Season the beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, red chili powder, and red chili flakes. Stir well and cook for another 1–2 minutes.
  • Add the tomato paste and mix until fully incorporated into the beef.
  • Pour in the water, cover the pan, and let the mixture simmer. Stir occasionally and cook for 10–12 minutes, until most of the liquid has evaporated and the mixture thickens.
  • Once the beef is fully cooked and thickened, add the diced bell peppers and serrano peppers. Cook for another 3–4 minutes.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and set the beef mixture aside.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Shape each tortilla half into a cone and secure the seam with a toothpick. Lightly spray the outside with cooking spray.
  • Place the cones seam-side down on the baking sheet. Bake for 8–10 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • Remove the cones from the oven. Fill each cone with the beef mixture and top generously with shredded mozzarella.
  • Stand the filled cones upright in a loaf pan and bake again for 8–10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven, garnish with dried parsley, and serve warm.

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips

The beef mixture can be prepared up to 2 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.

Tortilla cones are best baked fresh to maintain their crisp texture.

Leftover assembled cones can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven to re-crisp.
